Jude Heaton

Born in Leicester in 1980, Jude comes from a background of art and science from her mother and father respectively. Jude's drive obviously lay in art from an early age and following this Jude went straight from school at 16 to Loughborough University to study for a BTEC in General Art and Design, giving Jude the oppertunity to work in three dimensions.

Jude then moved on to study for a degree in Craft at Staffordshire University in the delightful city of Stoke-on-Trent.
This course allowed Jude to gain experience in a variety of materials; wood, plastics, glass, ceramics, textiles as well as metalwork, where Jude specialised.
Since leaving University with a 2:1 Jude has gone on to set up her own small workshop where she works on designs and commissions.

Jude is very interested in the Russian Constructivist artists and their use of negative space, Naum Gabo in particular. But she also takes inspiration from artists who use illusion in their work, Bridgit Riley for her pattern work and her favourite, Escher for his use of equivocal figures. In Jude's own two dimensional work she creates a lot of pattern and her own equivocal landscapes and architecture.
